Hard water no challenge for FIL Quantum Red on Northland farm

Kevin Salmon runs a 120-cow dairy operation south of Kaitaia. He purchased the 80-hectare dairy farm a decade ago and hasn’t faced many major hygiene issues in the dairy shed, except for one persistent challenge: high iron levels in the water.

“The receiving can would get stained, and you could see the iron residue coming out onto the concrete,” Kevin recalls.

When he couldn’t get his usual acid detergent, Kevin decided to reach out to his local FIL Area Manager for alternatives. “I had known Brian Salvigny through community golf days and he had always told me to reach out if I needed help. So, I got in touch and he recommended I try Quantum Red.”

Quantum Red is a high strength, low foaming acid detergent made with Phosphoric acid. Designed to handle tough water conditions, it’s been refined over 20 years to deliver superior cleaning performance – even in challenging and non-compliant farm water. Depending on water quality, it can be used at just 1mL or 1.5mL per litre.

Kevin noticed a significant improvement straight away. “I could see the difference from the first day. Quantum Red cleaned the plant better, the iron residues were gone and the plant was left spotless.”

Switching detergents after 35 years with the same product wasn’t a decision Kevin took lightly, but the results spoke for themselves. “Quantum Red worked so hard in our water that I made the switch to FIL.”

Now, Kevin’s a firm believer in the product and doesn’t hesitate to recommend it. “If you’ve got hard water, I highly recommend Quantum Red. It works hard and keeps the shed spotless,” Kevin adds.

How Tasman contract milkers solved their Thermoduric problem

Stephen Murphy started his contract milking journey in the Tasman region three seasons ago. They’ve been milking 500 cows through a large herringbone, which until recently, wasn’t running a wash through the plant as effectively as it should.
