The 3 C's for effective cleaning in the dairy
25 Nov 2021

When it comes to dairy hygiene, acid and alkali often get all of the glory, but chlorine is also vital for a variety of cleaning purposes on farm. Chlorine plays an important role in your alkali wash, removing moss and mould, and making water potable.
FIL's C3 is a highly effective cleaning chemical with three different uses:
1. Correction of dairy plant grade faults:
C3 boosts chlorine levels to help remove protein build-up from the milking plant. Combine C3 with a hot alkali wash to correct grades or add to your pre-season heavy-duty chlorinated alkali wash.
Use and rates:
- Alkali boost: 15mL per 10L of wash solution.
- Grade correction: 30mL per 10L wash solution.
2. Cleaning moss, mould and algae from surfaces:
Spray C3 onto concrete, walls, roofs and masonry to remove moss, mould and algae.
Use and rates:
- Spraying: 3 parts water to 1 part C3.
3. Clearing non-compliant water
Add C3 to water to make potable (safe to drink). C3 treats water by neutralising the microbes responsible for high bacterial contamination.
C3 can be used as a shock treatment or for general water treatment.
Use and rates:
- Plant rinse water: 5mL per 100L of water.
- Shock treatment: 1.5L per 1,000L of water.
- Potable water: 10mL per 1,000L of water.
